They were coming over on holiday and wanted to combine business with pleasure.

We found them two options, both trading, one with a cafe combined.

They were able to view both businesses for sale and see them in operation during their stay. We suggested just taking a couple of days to watch each business during it’s trading hours and a few days further researching the area with our assistance.

They decided that the one with the attached cafe was the one for them, we negotiated an offer while they were here and a deposit was paid.

They returned to the UK and within a month they were back in Mallorca with their daughter and son in law who are now running the cafe part of the business with them.

Heavy showers hit some parts of Minorca and Majorca in the afternoon and temperatures reduced suddenly by 8ºC within four hours. The temperature at 12.30a.m. in Majorca was 30ºC maximum but fell to 21.8ºC by 5pm. This summer had been warmer and drier so far and Agustin Jansa, head of Balearic Meteorological Office, said that the rains will be welcomed. Jansa added that the 1.5ºC rise of temperature on an average this month is in keeping with the climate change and also that the while the average rainfall had been low.

Though there had been the usual storms that occur at the end of summer, only four litres of rainfall has been registered during some weeks in the past. At Porto Pi. Palma, 10 litres rain was recorded this month which is 17 litres below the normal rainfall.

Because of the unusual wet spring this year, the water supplies were not much affected by the dry and hot summer. Moreover, the short torrential showers which are expected to come shortly would help to replenish the water reservoirs.

About 20 litres of rain flooded in just 1 hour in a number of parts of Majorca and 27 litres of rain fell in just ten minutes in Porreres yesterday causing flash flooding.

Yesterday, the ministry said that they will be taking steps to recapture the mentioned sites to the benefit of people under a maintenance programme. The sun terrace and the swimming pool together cover an area of 236 square metres. It was ceded to the owner for 25 years in 1970. Now, sisnce the lease is now over, the state will demolish these installations.

The demolition of the wire fencing in Soller includes a fine of 18,000 Euros to the owner. Though he had removed all tiling and posts, that fencing still obstructs people to walk from Alconasser to Bens s’Avall. Coastal department would rip up any of the remaining barrier.

If you don’t go down this route then you could be looking at a bar for sale through a business agent, that doesn’t quite meet your needs, however the one across the road would be ideal but neither your business estate agent nor you knows that its even for sale.

Lets also look at the third area where you should be concentrating your efforts, local knowledge, local newspapers and bars!

This is probably the hardest of all for you to achieve success in, many businesses that are for sale in Mallorca never even get to the business agents or even the local estate agents, the owners preferring to deal either with a recommendation from a friend, through the local newspapers or even by word of mouth.

It is virtually impossible for you to cover this market unless you are prepared to spend a very long time getting to know an area and who to speak to.

So continuing the business agency scenario, you have no been to see the bar that doesnt quite meet your requirements, remember the one over the road does, but you don’t yet know about it and believe it or not just around the corner is another at half the price, sadly you will drive right by it.

The final area is harder still. It’s the bars that are not officially up for sale, but would be if someone offered the right money! This is one that unless you know the areas, the businesses and the owners, will never ever be considered and yet it should. You will get told the best bars, restaurants etc never get sold, it’s not true, they are not actively marketed for sale but if someone came along at the right time with the right offer a negotiation could be made.

So you can attempt to cover those areas yourself or you could let us handle all the business agents, the local estate agents, the newspapers, the word of mouth and come back to you with all the answers.

This move is expected to make the sea a safer place. ADN plans to establish this service across Spain by next month.

This project is developed by Marattxi, Mallorca Company. ADN said that the captains are already being informed about storms and other dangers through mobile phones, but now, this system is going to be made automated. ADN wants to create an emergency procedure where the captains of the vessels can be informed using simultaneous text messages instead of emergency radio messaging.

For this warning system, a two way network between a central hub and the members of ADN will be set up. The network will automatically select the appropriate warning message to be sent to all the members, currently listing around 250 of them. When this project starts functioning, the warnings received from all the emergency departments and Meteorological centres in the Balearics would be sent instantly.

Yesterday ADN said that sending warnings through radios is not very efficient because whether the captains get the alerts or not depends on many factors. They need to be onboard at that time to receive the warnings, but SMS messaging doesn’t have such limitations.

ADN has members at almost all ports on the islands and they believe that this new system will prove to be very helpful and can avert many dangerous accidents.

The ADN congress today will be a high profile meeting with the head of the Mallorca Martime department, Bartolome Calafell, top director of General Emergencies directorate, Pedro Orfila and the senior official at the Meteorological Office, Agustin Jansa being present. They will make an assessment of introduction of the new technique.

Ramon Servalls, the director of wine production explained that the collection process will shut down for about a week after the Chardonnay harvest is over, but then, it would start again with harvesting of the Merlotand other varieties of grape and would finally be finished by September.
He also said that the harvest expected this year might not be as abundant as it was last year and in fact it might be 20 to 50 % less than that of the last year. The main reason for this situation is the heavy downpour in the months of May and June. However, he said that this will not mean reduction in the quality of wine. Macía Batlé has a good reputation all over the world for wine production.

He also blamed the APB for not revealing their future plans for the port. Macia Blazquez said that GOB had asked Triay recently to those plans and more information, but the only resources made available were drawings of 2005, after which many development and expansion programmes were carried out.
