The award winning wine producers of Majorcan, Macía Batlé, celebrated the beginning of the grape harvesting season yesterday at sa Torre, their country estate at Santa Maria. In Majorca, the age old tradition of picking the grapes from vineyards is called “Vermada” and yesterday, around 100 people were invited to be among the first to pick the Chardonnay grapes.

Ramon Servalls, the director of wine production explained that the collection process will shut down for about a week after the Chardonnay harvest is over, but then, it would start again with harvesting of the Merlotand other varieties of grape and would finally be finished by September.
He also said that the harvest expected this year might not be as abundant as it was last year and in fact it might be 20 to 50 % less than that of the last year. The main reason for this situation is the heavy downpour in the months of May and June. However, he said that this will not mean reduction in the quality of wine. Macía Batlé has a good reputation all over the world for wine production.

Many bar and restaurant owners are now stocking wines from Mallorca, offering a good range of prices and suitable for a variety of tastes.

Please consider supporting local wine producers by stocking a Mallorcan wine in your bar.
